In Need of an Update

Some various topics I wanted to talk about over the past week but got way too busy to even attempt...

I saw Titanic finally, more as a necessary piece of catching all the James Cameron flicks than anything else (I've rented Aliens twice now and failed to watch it, AND gotten late fees both times, so it might be a bit before I attempt that again). But I really liked it. Everything before the boat sinks is good...at times great, but mostly just good. But once that boat hits man, it's fantastic. Loved every second. Anyway, it was a nice way of making peace with the past after every girl in fifth grade was obsessed with that movie, mainly because of Leo DiCaprio, who I despised for years but have now forgiven (it's all about The Aviator).

There was a summer Coffee House thing on Tuesday night, which was unbelievably fun to work on and go to. Man I miss putting on those. Just about the whole set-up gang was there (we all missed ya, Rachel), and they have a great (though oversized) committee for next year. It was all in the Hayes Plaza, which was sweet to finally see after years of talking about how cool it'd be.

Had more to talk about...it's lost to me now. So very tired. Must sleep tonight. John's tomorrow. Also A Scanner Darkly. Sweet.

The Whole World's Against Me Dude, I Swear to God!

This is getting ridiculous...

Camera - Won't take pictures.

Right car speaker - Won't play anything from iPod.

Computer - Completely fucking gone.

Cell Phone - Broke in half.

CAR - Overheated and died, to soon be pushed six blocks.

I...swear...to...God.

Blah

Not much to say...got a new phone that's pretty friggin' sweet. Right now I don't have all my old pictures though, which is unfortunate to say the least. Though all hope is not lost yet.

Until I have something to say...Monkey humor!

My Phone Broke...In Half

Through...I don't even know what anymore, but now the only piece of technology currently holding together for me right now is my iPod, which I am beginning to expect will self-destruct any day now. So I'm supposed to get a new phone tomorrow, and I'm crossing my fingers that it won't involve getting a new phone number, because I already get the feeling I'll have to rebuild my entire contacts list. Which'll be...fun. Maybe I can do it around the same time I rebuild my music collection once Chester (my Powebook) gets fixed. Dear God.

Next Few Days

A split shift tomorrow, little overtime Friday, should be a normal shift Saturday though. Anniversary's gearing up to start on Friday (there are some pretty significant discounts...but it is Nordstrom, so a discount only goes so far), so I'll pretty much be there the next few days and sleeping when I'm not. Sunday's my next day off, and I plan on taking it to its fullest as I don't have another day off 'til next Saturday. Though next week should pretty much get back to normal.

Brandi assured me and the other stock guy who works her department that we're gonna hate her by the end of it (she can be a little high-strung...combine that with Anniversary and the fact that she's pregnant and the results could border on hilarious). But hey, a few years in the drama program, I'm sure I've seen worse. But we'll see.

And that's about all I've got...hope to make it to the movies this weekend (A Scanner Darkly comes out on Friday), but it's just crazy enough that it might be tricky. But then like four movies come out on the 21st that I wanna see, so what'll ya do (the answer may just be see three of them in one day, FYI).

I Love America

This was put up by grafitti artists in Houston. Full details, click above.

Bush Birthday Wishes

President Bush was in Chicago Thursday for his 60th birthday, having dinner with Mayor Daley. When asked by reporters what he wanted for his birthday he replied, "I've got a lot of birthday wishes. I hope the troops are safe. I hope Roger Ebert does well."

This seems less troubling to me than just...bizarre. Troops...then Ebert! To be fair, Ebert is in the hospital and does write for the Chicago Sun-Times, so there is some logic here. But you read that and it's just like...ah, what'll ya do.

Just When I Thought I'd Completely Run Out of Material...

I accidentally sent my last paycheck through the wash! Hooray!

Luckily, it's easily replaced. Though they laughed when I brought in the remains I could recover from my wet pants (that sounds awful).

Thaaaaaat's pretty much what I got. Pirates 2...some movies seem worse after you see them. Some seem better. I loved the hell outta the flick when I saw it, and thinking about it only makes me love it more.

Saw a homeless man today with a sign that said the following...

BUTT UGLY
STILL HOMELESS
STILL UGLY

Not really sure the inclusion of the third line added anything, but hey, it added some spice to the usual mix of folks on the westside onramp of the Ross Island Bridge.

Damn Them All!

So in a continuing, losing battle with technology (over the past two weeks, the right speaker on my car has begun going on the fritz, my less-than-two-months-old digital camera won't turn on, and my cell phone has a nasty habit of turning off for no reason), my Apple PoweBook is now broken! Gone! And when did this happen? A scant 10 days after the warranty expired. Coincidence? I think not. I've long held a theory about the iPod that it has a self-destruct mechanism that ends its life after a little more than a year of use, a belief that has been corroborated many times over. Now I see it extends to entire computers, for which I label the Apple corporation evil. And not unlike many evil corporations, I will continue to purchase products from them, as they are simply too good to pass up.

Anyway, my dad had this old Dell sitting around (I know, right?), and that'll be my computer for the time being. It has internet (I guess) and AIM (sorta) and various other things that I now have to readjust to after becoming so accustomed to the layout of the Mac. Well, it could be worse. It could be happening in Boston. At least here it's nice outside, and I can watch movies on the big-screen TV...I'll distract myself. But I now beg more than ever...you wanna do something, call me. Whereas I can usually pass time on the comp, I already hate using this damn machine. Damn you machine!

Tonight it's Superman with Dad, Lady Vengeance with myself, and spaghetti before it all. Hurray!
